Children of Eden is a two-act
musical play with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and
book by John Caird. The AMT production is based on a
concept by Charles Lisanby. The musical is loosely
based on the Book of Genesis. Act I tells the story of
Adam and Eve, Cain, and Abel, and Act II deals with Noah and
the Flood.
AMT Director Brian Quillin
describes the play as a story of relationships between
parents and children, "Although the play is based on
the Bible, the true realm of the story focuses on the
spiritual aspects between parents and children without a
specific religious point of view. We feel the entire family
will enjoy this lavish musical production which features the
Creation, the naming of the animals and the Great Flood."
Although Children of Eden
has never played Broadway, the show is extremely popular in
community theatres worldwide and had a short run on London's
West End. A Broadway production is planned for the
2008-09 season.
