An early morning fire completely destroyed the home of James and Glenda Ditto located at 781 Matt Morrow Road.  The Dittos were at home at the time of the fire but escaped without injury.  They have insurance according to Arab Fire & Rescue Chief Ricky Phillips.

Marshall County 911 received the fire call at 5:59 a.m..  Firefighters from Ruth VFD, Union Grove VFD, Brindlee Mountain VFD, and Arab Fire & Rescue responded to the fire.  Brindlee Mountain supplied water from a fire hydrant that was located down the road from the residence while firefighters from Ruth, Union Grove and Arab battled the blaze.  No one was injured in the blaze and a cause has not been determined.

After the fire, Chief Phillips praised the work of the responding fire departments, "The number of departments and personnel operating on the scene shows the outstanding cooperation and team work of the area fire departments we have to work with." Brindlee Mountain firefighter James Wessel said he could see smoke and flames from the top of Cleve-Terrell Hill on Highway 231 as he responded to the call.

Arab Fire & Rescue also responded to a fire on County Road 1856 in Cullman County around 3 a.m.  That home was also destroyed.  Details of the fire are not yet available.
