Lynn Walls
Cites Experience, Leadership, Honesty In
Revenue Commissioner Bid
May
5, 2008
Lynn Walls is confident that her 22 years experience in dealing
with all aspects of the revenue department makes her the most
qualified candidate to serve as Revenue Commissioner of Marshall
County. Walls, the Chief Revenue Clerk for the county, said she
has the proven ability to offer the citizens honest, experienced
leadership.
“Your revenue
commissioner’s office is intended to be a place where you can
come to get answers about your tax issues as well as be assured
that you are getting all the exemptions that you are eligible
for and entitled to under state law,” stated Walls, 44, of Arab.
“I have worked directly
with the citizens for more than two decades and have
demonstrated my concern and willingness to help with people’s
problems. I believe it is important to be knowledgeable and
available to the tax payers. I promise to continue to serve the
public as I have in the past and to be available when you need
help. I intend to be an elected official that you can count on.”
Walls says she has
outlined a comprehensive plan to modernize the office and make
it more accessible to the citizens. The plan includes creating
an online payment system for taxpayers, establishing satellite
payment stations in Albertville and Arab, as well as installing
an after-hours drop payment system. She also promises to
establish accountability for all public funds.
She is the Democratic
nominee for the position and will face her Republican opponent
in the November general election. She has taken a required by
law leave of absence during her campaign.
Married to Marshall
County Sheriff Scott Walls, she feels it’s important to stress
to the citizens that there is absolutely no conflict of interest
in both serving as elected officials.
“Scott’s business is law
enforcement, and my expertise is tax law and calculations. There
have been circumstances, even recently, where close family
members have held public office at the same time without any
conflict.”
Walls is the former Lynn
McCaffery and attended Albertville High School. They have two
sons, Joseph and Josh, and a daughter, Natalie Smith. Joseph
owns a landscaping and construction business while his wife
Denielle works as a registered medical assistant for an
optometrist. Josh is a student at Motlow State University.
Natalie is also a student and attends Athens State University.
Natalie’s husband Casey Smith is a teacher at Marshall Technical
School and are parents to the Walls’ first grandchild, Landen.
“I am looking forward to
getting out and campaigning for this important office. I hope to
see as many citizens as possible in the coming months so that
voters will appreciate the differences between me and my
opponent”, Walls concluded. “I understand how important this
position is to our citizens and know that they deserve a revenue
commissioner who they can be proud to vote for in November.”
