Highlight Poke Salat Festival

Microwave Dave performs Saturday afternoon

John Smedley of Cleveland, TN demonstrates the art of wood craft.

May, 5, 2008
The threat of heavy rains and storms Friday night forced the cancellation of the evening entertainment and early rain and cool temps Saturday morning curtailed the early crowds for the 24th Annual Poke Salat Festival but by mid morning the rain had stopped and by early afternoon the clouds moved out, bringing sunshine and a moderate crowd.  Festival goers took advantage of the food, crafts and entertainment most of the afternoon.

Dawn Sparks was disappointed that they had to cancel the Friday concerts.  "We had to make a decision by around 3 pm whether to go on with the concerts are cancel.  The weather reports were just to uncertain and we couldn't risk thousands of dollars of sound equipment so we decided to cancel for the night.' Sparks said.

L-Rancho patrons were able to sample or feast (according to your taste) the traditional fresh cooked Poke Salat.  Friday lunch was busy but it was standing room only on Saturday.

Although the crowds were not as large as hoped, it seems that most had a good time.  Click here to view photos from the event.
