Tuttle Comes To Town

January 23, 2008
The statue of Stephen Tuttle Thompson which will anchor the park at the corner of Main Street and Cullman Road was placed by workers Friday afternoon according to project chairman Liles Burke.  The statue has been complete for some time and has been in storage awaiting completion of the park.  Construction on the park was delayed awaiting Alabama Highway Department final approval of the construction plans.  The project has been in the works for almost four years.

Work on the park is underway and Arab Parks and Recreation Director Steve Hallman said the park could be finished by the end of February if the weather is good.  The $140,000 project was funded primarily by a TEA-21 Federal grant and private funding raised by Burke and the Arab Historical Committee.  A formal dedication of the park is planned after construction is completed.  The park is being built by D. W. Bush Construction Company of McCalla, Alabama.
