Four reported dead across Alabama

Severe weather cut a devastating swath across the
South beginning Tuesday afternoon and continues today. Tornadoes
were reported touching down in Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky,
Mississippi and Alabama. The storms which moved through the Arab
area around 4:30 a.m. have moved on into Georgia and Southern
Alabama and are continuing to spawn tornadoes and damaging
winds. At least fifty-four deaths have been reported from the
storms with the total expected to climb as rescue workers
continue to sift through the wreckage.
Heavy rain, high winds
and lightning pummeled the Arab and Brindlee Mountain area from
around 4 a.m. until 5:30 a.m. Flash flooding was reported in low
lying areas by Arab Police and Marshal County EMA.
Severe storms with a
possible tornado moved through the Arab area around 4:30 a.m.
Tornado warning sirens were activated as the storm began to move
across Cullman County. No significant wind damage was reported
in Arab although the heavy rains caused flooding and road damage
to at least one city street.
Damage was reported in
the Buck Island area just North of Guntersville and along Hwy 79
toward Scottsboro. Trees and power lines were reported down in
the affected areas.
The same storm that moved
through the Arab and Marshall County area did extensive damage
near the Pisgah area. At least one person was confirmed dead in
the Pisgah area.
Earlier in the morning,
severe damage was reported in Lawrence County. Reports of
injuries and widespread damage of homes and businesses were
reported. At least three people died in that storm.
