Boaz, Jan. 19, 2009 - Special To Arab Today
In the third quarter of tonight’s Marshall County Tournament contest, Arab’s Jared Myers moved toward the goal, then pulled back and hit a two-point jumper against Asbury. It was Myers’s sixth point of the night, but more significantly it was the 1,000th career point for the standout guard. The Knights went on for a 58 – 38 win over a highly respected Asbury squad and advanced to the next round of the Marshall County Tournament at Snead State Community College. Arab will next square off against Douglas, who beat Guntersville Monday.

It was another strong outing by the Knights, this time against the state’s 4th rated 1A team. The Knights rode Lee Elrod’s 16 points to jump out to a 37 – 11 halftime lead that was never in jeopardy. Burnham Hawk was hot, shooting 2/2 in field goals, both from behind the arc. Hawk was also 4/4 from the free throw line, finishing with 10. Wesley Hohn added eight. Lake Graham scored seven and had a strong rebounding performance with seven off the boards.

Rams scoring was led by Caleb Thomas, Guilherme Assumpcao, and James Ferguson, each with eight. Colby Colton added six. Asbury had a slight rebounding edge, 25 – 22.

The Knights will now advance to the semi-finals, facing Douglas on Thursday at 7:45.
