Scottsboro, Jan. 9, 2009 – Special To Arab Roday
The Arabian Knights used a strong second half to
put away a determined Scottsboro team in Scottsboro tonight. The
Knights collected a 58 – 47 Area 14 win and improve to 11 – 9
overall (2 – 2 Area). The Wildcats drop to 5 – 9 (0 – 4 Area).
The win
didn’t come easy for Arab as Scottsboro used a strong inside
game to keep pace. There were 11 lead changes in the game and
the score was tied six times. Darren Culver, the Wildcat’s 6’6”,
285 lb. forward, had a good second half to keep Scottsboro in
range until late in the fourth quarter. Culver finished with 12
points and two rebounds. Scottsboro’s other big men were also
productive with B. Paradise putting in nine and John Deerman
leading scoring with 16. Deerman was also credited with nine
rebounds.
The night
belonged to Arab, however, as the Knights continue to win facing
good opposition. The Knights have now won five of their last six
and seem to improve with each outing. Lake Graham added five
blocked shots bringing his count to 14 in the last five games.
Graham also pulled in seven rebounds and scored nine points. The
Knights seem to be trying to pick up production from their
inside game and the efforts are paying dividends. Graham, along
with David Underwood, John William Richey and Shawn Allen, are
contributing significantly to Arab’s recent success.

assists. Myers also collected two steals to extend his streak of
consecutive games with at least one steal to 19. Lee Elrod had a
productive night with 12 points, three rebounds, and three
steals. Elrod’s free throws down the stretch helped the Knights
pull away. Elrod finished seven of nine from the charity stripe.
Jonathan
Embry also contributed, scoring nine and pulling down six
rebounds. The play of Embry, who was also credited with six
steals, has been key to the Knights’ win streak. Wesley Hohn
helped round out the scoring with six, while David Underwood and
John William Richey each added four. Jake Mann scored one.
Arab will be
at home against Guntersville (9 – 9) on Saturday with a 5 p.m.
tip-off at Arab Jr. High. Coach Faron Key is asking Arabian
Knights fans to pack the gym for this one.
Scottsboro
will play Boaz at Boaz Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
