The Arabian Knights notched
their third win of the season Friday night against the perennial
rival Guntersville Wildcats. The Wildcats were undefeated
going into the game but the Knights broke the string of
victories with a 17 - 14 win.
The Knights were
first on the scoreboard with a touchdown on a 3 yard run by
Jonathan Embry with 5:42 left in the 2nd quarter. The
Knights carried a 7-0 lead into the dressing room at half time.
The Wildcats got onto the scoreboard with 6:20 left in the 3rd
quarter. Corey Cahill scored on a 68 yard pass from Chris
Daniel. The point after try by Guntersville was no good
and the Knights held onto the lead 7-6.
The Knights put
answer points on the board with a 17-yard run by Michael Moffett
with 1:53 left in the 3rd quarter. The point after kick
was good to give Arab a 14-6 lead.
The Knight's
kicking game, which has been troublesome in the earlier games,
was firing on all cylinders Friday night. Nathaniel Joyner
booted a 20 yard field goal with 3:47 left in the game after a
Knights drive bogged down. The field goal gave the Knights
a 17-6 lead.
The Joyner field
goal would prove to be crucial in the game as Guntersville
trimmed the lead with a 50 yard pass from Daniel to Cahill for a
TD and a successful 2 point conversion attempt with 2:39
remaining.
The Knights picked off two of
Guntersville's passing attempts.
Arab Quarterback Jonathan
Embry was 5 of 7 in passing for the night, connecting for 89
yards. Embry rushed for 93 yards.
Arab will be on
the road to Southside Friday night.
