Coach Bill Morgan and Coach
Shorty Smith came to the Arab High School Baseball field Tuesday
night expecting to throw out the first pitch for the varsity
game but there was more in store for the two men who have
devoted much of their lives to working with the youth of Arab
City Schools and the City of Arab. Following the
ceremonial pitches, the men were guided to the area behind home
plate where a plastic covered brick column was unwrapped to
reveal a monument honoring their service. Arab High School
baseball head coach Phil Puccio handled the unveiling as family
members and friends applauded. Many of those in attendance
were coached by Morgan and Smith in past years.
Coach Morgan is a retired Arab High School
football and baseball coach. Morgan was named Marshall
County Baseball Coach of the Year six times. He
volunteered and worked with teams for many years after his
retirement.
