Sonia Norris

ASMC Executive Director

Sonia C. Norris has joined Alzheimer’s Services
of Marshall County (ASMC) as Executive Director. Sonia holds a
Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Alabama in
Huntsville and a Master of Divinity from Duke University in
Durham, North Carolina. She is a native of Marshall County and a
graduate of Arab High School.
Prior to joining Alzheimer’s Services of Marshall County, Norris
expanded her knowledge and experience around illness and end of
life issues while directing a volunteer care giving support team
program in Chapel Hill, NC. She established her career while
working for Project Compassion, a nationally recognized
non-profit organization that provides community, resources, and
support for people living with serious illness, end of life,
care giving and grief.
During her three years
with Project Compassion, Norris trained over 500 community
volunteers, started over 30 volunteer care giving support teams
and partnered with national and local organizations including
the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization and the Duke
Institute on Care at the End of Life. Norris has also led
numerous workshops, symposia and training events around end of
life issues. She is a contributing author of The Unbroken
Circle: A Toolkit for Congregations Around Illness, End of Life
and Grief, to be released spring 2009.
