Firefighters don't
usually walk around in pink uniforms. Unless it is to
raise awareness about a devastating disease that affects
about 1.4 million Americans each year.
Beginning
October 25 and continuing for three days, expect to see Arab
Firefighters dressed in pink shirts as part of the "Cares
Enough to Wear Pink" campaign. The campaign is part of
efforts to increase awareness of the dreaded breast cancer
disease that this year is expected to claim the life of
about 665,650 Americans. Arab Fire Chief Ricky
Phillips
said the men will be wearing the shirts as a means of
speaking on the behalf of all women who have been stricken
by the horrible disease and as a way of showing they care.
Arab Mayor
Gary Beam signed a proclamation on Wednesday declaring that
all of the firefighters will be participating in the program
and asking the citizens of Arab to join in support of this
cause and to show their encouragement for those battling
cancer.
