Strong winds destroyed at least one building and damaged several others near Morgan City Sunday afternoon.  The storm, which moved out of Morgan County, had prompted the issuing of a tornado warning by the Huntsville National Weather Service just prior to the damage.

The storm did the most damage in the Griffin Acres area just of of Green Briar Road.  A large barn/garage, owned by Kenneth & Donna Bell, was destroyed at 163 Griffin Acres and their home was damaged.  Several trees were uprooted, awnings and yard items were tossed about.  Patty Torbox, the Bell's daughter who lives directly behind the Bell home, said the winds seemed to skip across the area.  Her home was not damaged but a swing set and several other yard items were blown around.  Directly across the street, the winds ripped the roof off of a mobile home owned by James Denney.  Another home in the area suffered damage when a large tree fell across a portion of the home.  There were no injuries in any of the dmaged homes.

Members of the Brindlee Mountain Volunteer Fire Department helped to cover the damaged roofs of the homes.  Deputies from Morgan and Marshall County responded to the area.  Marshall County EMA officials and Red Cross personnel were also on the scene.
