Another Hwy
69 Wreck
Causes Serious Injuries
July 25, 2009
It's almost uncanny how
major events seem to happen in three's. For the third
time, almost exactly a week apart, three major wrecks have
occurred on Alabama Hwy 69. This time it was on the
Guntersville Road, or East side of Arab.
Arab Police
say a two car accident at 3:28 Friday afternoon seriously
injured the two drivers. The wreck, which occurred on
Hwy 69 near Arad Thompson Road,
involved a 2008 Chevy Impala
driven by Homer P. Hornbuckle Jr.,
age 67,
of Arab, and a 2003 Buick Century driven by Melissa Aileen
Driver,
age 42,
of Guntersville.
According to Arab Police, Hornbuckle pulled out of a private
drive and was struck by Driver who was westbound on
Guntersville Road. Hornbuckle was transported to
Marshall Medical Center North by Arab Fire and Rescue.
Driver was flown to Huntsville Hospital by an Air Evac
Lifeteam helicopter. Dr. Victor Sparks, who happened
upon the wreck scene, assisted on the scene with Ms. Driver.
According to
hospital reports, both Hornbuckle and Driver are listed in
stable condition with multiple injuries and fractures.
A grinding 18
Wheeler crash with two vehicles on Hwy 69 just outside the
Arab City limits on Friday, July 10 killed Brian Mann of
Arab and sent another person to the hospital (see
related story). A second wreck that occurred
Saturday, July 18, seriously injured Cody Thompson.
Thompson died two days later from the injuries suffered in
the wreck
(see
related story).
Arab Police Department Corporal Mitch Stone is investigating
the accident. Units from the APD, Arab Fire & Rescue
and Arab Rescue Squad responded to the scene.
