Judge Liles C. Burke was
sworn in today for a six-year term as Marshall County District
Judge. His father, Claud Burke, administered the oath of office
as his wife, Natalie, held the Bible.
“I have enjoyed serving as District Judge for the past two years
and I am thankful to the people of Marshall County for giving me
a full term in office,” Judge Burke was appointed to the
District Court by Governor Bob Riley in January of 2007, and was
elected without opposition in the general election of November
2008.
“I am proud of the things we have accomplished in the District
Court over the past two years,” said Judge Burke. Along with
Marshall County DHR, Court Referral Services, and the Marshall
County Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Judge Liles Burke
helped begin Marshall County’s first Family Drug Court, and the
County’s first Domestic Violence Court. “Our Family Drug Court
and Domestic Violence Court are showing excellent results by
ensuring that children are in safe, drug-free homes. I am
grateful for the help of these three great agencies for making
such court programs a reality,” said Burke.
Judge Burke pledged to continue working to further improve the
Marshall County Courts during this term of office. Burke stated.
“I will continue to give my full efforts to make our District
Court one of the best in the State.”
Judge Burke received his undergraduate degree from The
University of Alabama in 1991 and a law degree from The
University of Alabama School of Law in 1994. After law school,
he returned home to Marshall County and joined the Arab law firm
of Burke & Beuoy, originally begun by his father, Claud Burke.
Judge Burke began serving as the Municipal Prosecutor for the
City of Arab in 1994, a position he held until 2001 when he was
named Municipal Judge. Liles Burke served as Municipal Judge for
the City of Arab until he was appointed District Judge by
Governor Bob Riley in January 2007.
Judge Burke is the son of Claud Burke and Jane McDonald. Burke’s
wife, Natalie, is the Marshall County community representative
for the American Cancer Society. They have two children, Camilla
Jane and Claud. Judge Burke and his family are active members of
the First United Methodist Church of Arab.
