“Bringing out the Best in
Kids”
March 1,
2009
The Arab Optimist Club is dedicated to “Bringing out the Best in
Kids”. The club is in its twelfth year of active participation
in the lives of young people in the Arab area. As a membership
of volunteers associated with Optimist International, the Arab
Optimist Club sponsors numerous activities whose aim is to
inform, promote, and support the youth of our local area.
Annually the Arab
Optimist Club sponsors – a Junior Golf Tournament, an Essay
Contest, an Oratorical Contest, scholarships for Senior at local
High Schools, monetary support for the Arab Robotics Team and
the BUG Club at Arab Elementary School, which awards students
for “Bringing Up Grades”.
“Every 15 Minutes”, is another major project of the Optimist
Club. "Every 15 Minutes" is the awarding-winning program
that educates high school students about the dangers of drinking
and driving.
In addition to youth oriented programs the club participates in
other community activities. They club members place poinsettias
in patients’ rooms at Golden Living Healthcare in Arab at
Christmas time. They also select an Arab Police officer each
year to be honored at the “Respect for Law” banquet held
annually in Huntsville.
Members of the club are a
group of volunteers dedicated to serving the youth of Arab and
surrounding area. The Club meets at 6:30pm on the 2nd & 4th
Thursday of each month in the downstairs meeting room at
Grumpy’s. Prospective members are welcome to attend. For more
information, contact President Kent Gibbs @ 738-9194 or
membership chairperson, Sandra Bales @ 586-1580 ext 323.
