April 6, 2009
The Arab City Council voted Monday night to approve a franchise request to construct and operate a video system in the City.
The franchise approval will allow Otelco to go ahead with plans to offer television programming and other video services to it's current telephone customers.
The request had been tabled since the last council meeting pending resolution of issues raised by the the City's attorney's. Assistant City Attorney, Rodney Edmonson told the council that the issues had been resolved. Edmondson said the goal was to make the franchise as close to one already in place for Charter Communications as possible.
Arab Mayor Gary Beam recommended the approval. "This will give the citizens four choices for TV service and allow for more competition. Customers can now choose from Charter, DirectTV, Dish Network, or Otelco." Beam added.
