Knights Lose To Guntersville 28-21
Penalties Prove Costly To Knights
September 26, 2010
The Arabian Knights lost a hard fought game against the Guntersville Wildcats Friday night at Phil Isom Field in Guntersville. The Knights very quickly posted 14 unanswered points against the Wildcats as they seemed very poised, methodical, and in control, early in the game. Despite the early game control, the Knights seemed to lose their poise late in the 2nd quarter and penalties and mistakes would prove costly as Guntersville was able to come by to tie and then take the lead in the 3rd quarter. The Knights would mount one more drive to tie the game themselves but would allow Guntersville to take the lead for the final 28-21 loss.
The Knights scored first with 6:27 left in the first quarter on a 2 yard touchdown run by Evan Brock after driving 64 yards in 13 plays. The point after kick by Nathaniel Joyner was good to give the Knights a 7-0 lead.
With 10:02 left in the second quarter the Knights capitalized on a Guntersville fumble as Devyn Murphree picks up the ball and runs for a TD. The fumble was caused by Grant Lake.
Guntersville took advantage of a fumbled snap as Arab attempted to punt with seconds remaining in the 2nd quarter. The Wildcats score with 11 seconds left on the clock. The Knights take a 14-7 lead into the locker room at half time.
Guntersville received the 2nd half kickoff and with only 19 seconds ticked off the clock in the 3rd quarter the Wildcats break loose on a 67 yard TD run to tie the game 14-14.
On the ensuing kick-off Guntersville uses and onside kick and recovers an Arab fumble. Arab quickly regains ball possession on a pass interception by Jarrett Kirkwood at the 5 yard line to prevent a Guntersville score.
With 9 seconds left in the 3rd quarter Guntersville scores after picking off an Arab pass and marching 90 yards in 7 plays. After the PAT Guntersville leads 21-14.
Arab tied the game on a 2 yard quarterback keeper by Evan Brock with 6:59 left in the 4th quarter to tie the score at 21 all.
With 3:07 left in the game Guntersville scores to take the lead 28-21.
The Knights mount a valiant effort in the closing seconds of the game but come up short as the final pass falls incomplete and time runs out. With the loss, the Knights go to 3-2 on the season and will face Southside of Gadsden at home next Friday night at 7 pm.
