The driver of a late model Nissan pickup which failed to negotiate a sharp curve at 1438 Gofview Drive NE ended up in jail after crashing into a car and home early Tuesday morning.
Homeowners Terry and Nancy Shore were asleep when the truck came crashing into the home around 12:45 a.m.. A son was working on a computer. Nancy Shore said she was awakened by at least two crashes. "At first I thought it was thunder but then my son came in and said that someone had run into the house." What they found was quite a shock. The truck had first plowed through a flower garden, then jumped over a brick retaining wall, hit a Lincoln Continental parked in the driveway, and finally came to rest part way into the garage of the home. The garage door was destroyed and a vehicle inside the garage was slightly damaged.
Shane McKinney, driver of the truck, was arrested at the scene by Arab Police officer Jeff Warren and charged with DUI. No one was injured in the accident.
The Shore's are no stranger to wrecks in their yard but this is the first time that a vehicle has hit their house. Brick columns which used to flank the driveway have been hit so many times that they have given up on replacing them. Reflectors erected to warn drivers about the sharp curve are knocked down almost as soon as they are erected.
