With several Relay events still to be held during the month of May, the current Marshall North Relay total stands at $167,511. American Cancer Society community representative Natalie J. Burke said she is also expecting additional funds from teams that have not yet turned in their money from the earlier events. Burke is working on a newsletter that will be sent to all teams with everyone's team total! The newsletter should be sent out in the next two weeks.
Burke presented the Arab Fire Department a special Hero Award for saving a Fedex package from the Parkway Pharmacy fire. The box contained checks from the fundraising efforts. The Spirit Award went to the "Cureageous" team
Burke also announced the winners for several categories. Top fundraising teams were: In the schools division Arab Primary School was tops with $13,285 and was also the overall top fundraiser for the event. Deltacom led the business division with a total of $8,374. In the churches division Warrenton United Methodist Church led with $10,381.25.
In the Cooking for a Cure competition, Arab First Baptist Church took 1st Place, the marshall County Circuit Clerk's office took 2nd Place, and Arab High School placed 3rd. In the sweet treats competition, New Brashiers Chapel United Methodist Church garnered 1st place honors and Union Hill First Congregation Methodist Church took 2nd.
