October 6, 2010
Stage Directions magazine, a leading industry publication for the arts has name the Arab Musical Theatre as the number one high school theatre program in the Southeast and one of the top 5 in America.
The program was recognized with a $5,000 grant by Representative Jeff McLaughlin and Senator Hinton Mitchem during ceremonies Wednesday morning. The award was presented at the Arab Chamber of Commerce early morning breakfast.
Brian Quillin, AMT director told those attending the breakfast, he was asked by the magazine how the AHS musical theatre program managed to reach the status in such a small community. Qullin stated, "I told them that for the size of the community Arab was blessed with talented kids and a community that supported the program to no end."
The next major AMT production will be Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" which will be presented in the spring of 2011.
