An early morning blaze caused extensive damage to an unoccupied house on Friendship Road NE Wednesday morning. Firefighters were called to the two story home around 6:20 a.m.
The upstairs portion of the house, which is not easily visible from the road, was already engulfed in flames when the fire was discovered. The fire apparently started in an upstairs bedroom. There was no electricity to the house.
According to Arab Police, the home is owned by Roger Dale Hayes. Police said that Hayes lives in a nearby mobile home and that they have responded to numerous calls at his residence over the past week.
Arab firefighters were assisted by units and personnel from Union Grove and Brindlee Mountain volunteer fire departments. No one was injured during the blaze. Firefighters were on the scene for about three hours.
