For the second time in as many nights, Arab Fire & Rescue personnel have been called to douse fires at an abandoned granary complex just off South Main Street. Both fires were apparently set by arsonists. Firefighters responded to a fire in an office building at the complex around 3:30 a.m. Monday morning. The interior of the block building was destroyed.
Firefighters were called to the complex again Tuesday morning to fight a fire in the main building. That call came in around 4:15 a.m. When firefighters and police arrived flames and heavy smoke was pouring from the building but firefighters were able to quickly bring the blaze under control. Damage was limited to the interior structure of the building.
Fire and police officials are looking for two vehicles that may be of interest in the fires. Anyone with information about the fires or who may have seen suspicious activity are asked to contact the Arab Police at (256) 586-8124 or Arab Fire Department at (256) 586-8819.
