One Killed In Friday Afternoon Crash

A Lacey Spring woman was killed and a Union Grove man was seriously injured in a car and dump truck collision on Cullman Road Friday afternoon. The wreck occurred around 2:15pm when a Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Jimmy Brooks, age 67 of Hickory Circle near Morgan City, apparently made a left turn into the path of a dump truck owned by J & J Trucking of Joppa. The truck struck the car in the passenger door. Shirley Jean Staton Green, age 62, of Water Tower Loop Road, Lacey Spring and a passenger in the Cavalier was apparently killed instantly. Brooks was flown to Huntsville Hospital by Medflight helicopter. The driver of the dump truck, Jerome Quinton Cobbs, was not injured. The initial crash occurred at the turn-in to Big D Cycles but the car and truck came to a stop in front of the Nationwide Insurance Office.

The accident is being investigated by Arab Police. Personnel from the APD, Arab Fire and Rescue and Arab Rescue Squad responded to the accident.
