A fire gutted the interior of a Midfield Road mobile home in the Joppa community Sunday afternoon. Firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control, but not before the interior of the home was destroyed by the flames and heavy smoke.
The mobile home was owned by Joyce and Dale Hopson of Joppa. Joyce Hopson, who was home when the fire broke out, said she thought the fire started from a wood burning heater that she was using for heat. Hopson, who use a walker or wheelchair, escaped from the burning home without suffering injury.
Personnel from Arab Fire & Rescue, Ruth Volunteer Fire Department, and Joppa Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the blaze. The American Red Cross was called in to assist with temporary housing and disaster assistance.
The fire is being investigated by the Arab Fire Rescue department
