Just a few of the 79 cars that raced to raise money for the 3rd Annual Arab Police Department Pursuit For The Cure event. Arab Today photo by Dwight Hayes

March 26, 2010
The 3rd Annual Arab Police Department Pursuit For The Cure event raised $3,950 according to APD Corporal Mitch Stone. Stone said that approximately 80 cars, trucks, and motorcycles entered the fun races held at the Baileyton Good Time Drag Strip. Stone said this was the largest crowd ever at the event. In fact, the concession stand ran out of food around 3 pm because of the large crowd.

To participate in the event entrants pay a flat fee to race as much as they want and against whoever they want. APD ran their X2 car, a retired police cruiser that has been modified with a racing engine and nitrous oxide booster. The car was built and the event staged entirely with donations from businesses and individuals. No tax dollars were used for the car or the event.
