Marshall County Sheriff Scott Walls has been notified that his department has been awarded a $181,612.00 to obtain a patrol boat. The grant is from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for Port Security. The grant is 100% funded and requires NO local match monies.
Walls said the boat will be equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, such as, Side Scan Sonar, Forward Looking Infrared Radar (FLIR), and Night Vision equipment. The boat will be able to be operated in all weather conditions.
Walls said, "We will have the capability of transporting a tactical team and search and rescue teams in emergency operations. This will be a valuable asset to Marshall County."
Walls said the department has received more than $500,000 in grants in the past few years. "We have been diligent in applying for grants to bring much needed equipment and programs to the sheriff’s office. We have a grant writer at the sheriff’s office and have been fortunate to be awarded several grants." Walls added.
