The Arab Historic Village is preparing for “Journey Stories,” a Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition, in February 2012. The exhibit is a Museum on Main Street project organized by the Smithsonian Institute and Alabama Humanities Council.
“Arab Beautification Board chose to plant two magnolia trees in the Village in observance of Arbor Day,” says Juanita Edmondson, Coordinator of the Historic Village. “We plan to enhance the beauty of the Village with quite a few plantings of shrubs, trees, and perennials in anticipation of visitors from all over north Alabama. We hope to get the planting done this spring so that the plants will be settled in and growing next February.”
The Arab Beautification Board consists of 10 members. They are: Bev Durham, Mary Hunter, Blair Herren, Diane Sorter, Joann Whisenant, Scott Butler, Dustin Holland, Jimmy Reeves, Joy Privett, Doreen Bates. City Councilman, Jimmy Reeves, is the Board’s liaison with the City.
Edmondson appreciates the Beautification Board’s contribution to the landscaping plan. “The magnolia trees are the first evergreen specimens added to the landscape.” She continues, “We are grateful for all the help we get, whether its time, material, or monetary. We need help planting, as well as plant material, topsoil and mulch.”
