Bath Salts And Synthetic
Marijuana To Be Seized

March 3, 2011
As a result of the ban and the addition of compounds known as “Bath Salts” to the Alabama Uniform Controlled Substances Act by Attorney General Luther Strange and Dr. Don Williamson of the Alabama Department of Public Health, Marshall County Sheriff's Deputies, Marshall County Drug Enforcement Unit and area municipal law enforcement began this morning identifying locations that are selling these items and we will immediately seize any such items that are found. Any items, which purport to be synthetic marijuana, have also been ordered to be seized for laboratory testing. The sale and possession of these items are now illegal and will constitute a felony offense.

District Attorney Steve Marshall and Sheriff Scott Walls, in a joint effort, will be overseeing this operation to ensure that these items are seized and taken off the streets of Marshall County.

“These items are dangerous and we have all heard horror stories from all across Alabama, where kids and young adults have become seriously ill or where death has been associated with the use of such products. I applaud this ban and the efforts of all state leaders involved in issuing the ban. This is another step in the right direction in order to help keep our kids safe. During this operation, we will be educating management at locations selling these products and removing theses products and sending them to a state laboratory for examination.” said Sheriff Scott Walls

"The problem with "Bath Salts" has grown exponentially over the last few weeks, especially with young people. I applaud the efforts of this who provided for the ban of these substances and believe it will have a positive impact on our community," said District Attorney Steve Marshall.
