Dual Enrollment Scholarships Available at Wallace State-Hanceville

Thanks to a grant from the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education’s Workforce Development division, dual enrollment students in career and technical programs at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville may receive free tuition.

The $175,000 grant is available only for classes in career and technical programs. To qualify for Wallace State’s Dual Enrollment program, high school students in grades 10, 11 and 12 must earn a 2.5 grade point average and have the approval of their principal and superintendent.

Dr. Dale Palmer, Director of the Wallace State Fast Track Academy, is working with the Cullman Area Career Center, the Morgan County Career Center at Brewer High School and the Arab High School Career Center to encourage students to take advantage of this funding.

“This is a unique opportunity for students to take their dual enrollment courses for free,” said Palmer. “Wallace State has a variety of career and technical programs where this funding can be used,” he said.

A portion of the funding will be used by students in Wallace State’s Fast Track Academy, which offers high school students an opportunity to enter exciting career fields in public safety, health care and automotive manufacturing. Only Fast Track Academy students in career and technical programs are eligible to receive the funding.

Wallace State’s Dual Enrollment program is among the largest in the state and serves Locust Fork High School in Blount County, A.P. Brewer, Danville and Falkville high schools in Morgan County, Cullman High School, St. Bernard Prep. School and Hanceville, Holly Pond, Fairview and Good Hope high schools in Cullman County, and Addison and Meek high schools in Winston County.

For more information, contact Dale Palmer at 256/352-8050 or dale.palmer@wallacestate.edu. To find out more about programs offered at Wallace State-Hanceville, visit www.wallacestate.edu.
