The Arabian Knights traveled to Albertville Friday night for
what was arguably the most exciting game of the season. Arab
went into the game with a 3-2 record while Albertville had
posted a 1-4 record to date.
Albertville was the “last man standing” after an offensive
shootout between the Arabian Knights and the Aggies that
ended with a total of seventy-nine points scored between the
two teams. Both teams seemed to be able to move through the
other’s defensive lines almost at will.
Arab, who won the toss wasted no time in putting points on
the board with their first possession. Starting on the
thirty-five yard line, Quarterback Heith Pope led the team
on a seven play, sixty-five yard drive for the first score.
With the point after good, and with 9:33 left in the first
quarter Arab led 7-0.

Knights fans show their support.
An interception by Matt Daniels on the thirty-six yard line
put a quick stop to Albertville’s first possession but two
quick dropped balls by Arab forced a punt back to
Albertville after only four plays.
After regaining the ball at the forty-seven yard line on the
punt, Albertville ran six plays as they put the ball into
the end zone to cap a fifty-three yard drive. The point
after attempt was wide right and with 3:47 left in the first
quarter Arab led 7-6.
Arab answered quickly on their next possession. Taking the
ball on the 38 yard line, they quickly drove sixty-two yards
on seven plays. The point after added another point and Arab
was up 14 – 6 with 1:19 left in the first quarter.
After the Arab kickoff, Albertville was looking for very
quick answer points. With one second left on the first
quarter clock, the Aggies found their way into the end zone
after running four plays and covering sixty-seven yards. The
two point conversion attempt by the Aggies was denied by the
Arab defense. With one second left Arab was on top 14-12.
Not to be outdone, Arab answered quickly with an eighty yard
drive and eleven plays ending with a pass from Heith Pope to
Nick Karr in the end zone as Karr pulled the pass down
between two Aggie defenders. The point after kick was no
good and Arab led 20-12.
Continuing to trade scores, Albertville tied the score 20-20
with a touchdown and successful two point conversion on
their next possession. The series covered 66 yards on four
plays.
On the next possession the Knights got the ball on their
thirty yard line and drove into the red zone. Unable to put
the ball into the end zone, Trey Knighton kicked a twentu-nine
yard field goal which allowed the Knights to go into the
half-time locker room leading 20-12.
Arab immediately added to their score in the third quarter
as the Aggies fumbled the ball on the opening kick-off. Arab
recovered the ball on the Albertville thirty-three yard line
and took four plays to punch the ball in for another
touchdown. The point after attempt was no good and Arab lead
29-20.
It took Albertville four minutes and twenty-four seconds to
add seven points on their next possession. Starting on their
own thirty yard line, Albertville ran eleven plays and added
the point after to move to within two points as Arab still
led 29-27.
Arab turned the ball over on an interception on their next
possession giving Albertville an opportunity to take the
lead. Time ran out in the third quarter with Albertville
knocking on the door at the five yard line. Moving into the
fourth quarter it took only one play for the Aggies to
connect on a touch down pass. Albertville went for two
points and scored to go ahead 35-29.
On the next possession Arab turns the ball over on downs as
they were unable to convert a critical fourth down play.
Albertville was unable to move the ball and for the first
time in the game Albertville was forced to punt back to
Arab. After a short Albertville punt Arab took the ball on
the Albertville forty-five yard line and moved the ball to
the five yard line before turning the ball over to an
Albertville player who ran the ball back for a ninety-five
yard touch down with only eighty seconds left in the ball
game. Albertville lead 43-29.
Arab would not go quietly. With eleven seconds left in the
game Arab scores once again after starting on the Arab
twenty yard line, running eight plays to cover the 80 yards
in one minute and nine seconds.
Arabs gamble on an on-side kick paid off as Arab recovered
the ball with six seconds left to play. The Knights pass on
their first play was intercepted by Albertville ending the
game.
Arab drops to a record of 3 and 3 with two losses in the
area. Arab will face Etowah next Friday night at home in
Arab.
