October 29, 2006
An all day downpour on Friday didn't stop Arab's final 2006 home game Friday night against Butler, but it certainly didn't help.  By game time several inches of rain had fallen, causing treacherous footing and tough playing conditions for both teams.  At the end of forty-eight minutes of play Butler had managed to put thirty-three points on the scoreboard while Arab had scored fourteen points.

This was the final home game of the year for the Knights and was Senior recognition night.  Seniors from the football team, cheerleading squad and band were honored during the pre-game activities.  Each senior received a long stem red rose.

Arab got on the scoreboard first after starting at their own 21 yard line and moving seventy-nine yards in thirteen plays.  Quarterback Heith Pope scored the touchdown on a Quarterback keeper from the four yard line with 5:03 left in the first quarter.  Trey Knighton added the PAT giving the Knights their only lead of the night.

It didn't take Butler long to answer the Arab score.  With 1:05 left in the first quarter Butler put their own points on the scoreboard as they drove 63 yards in 10 plays to score their first touchdown.  Butler's Jones scampered in from the 26 for the score.  The PAT by Butler was good to tie the game 7-7.  The Butler drive ran 3:58 off the clock.

Butler took the lead with 7:46 left in the second quarter after driving 58 yards in 7 plays.  The drive took 4:14 minutes and with another good PAT Butler led 14-7.

Turnovers began to plague the Knights and Butler took advantage each time.  Arab turned the ball over on the next possession allowing Butler to capitalize with another score.  With 7:04 left in the second quarter Butler scores on a 59 yard 5 play drive following the turnover.. On the fourth play of the drive, Butler's Cunningham goes in from the 49. Butler missed the PAT but leads by a score of 20 to 7.

On Arab's next possession they again turned the ball over after holding the ball for only 8 seconds.  Once again Butler capitalized on the Knight's mistake as they ran 6 plays covering 44 yards in 3 minutes and 58 seconds.  With 4:53 left in the first half Butler held a 27-7 lead over the Knights.

Ball possession in the second half was all Butler.  Arab ran 5 plays and had possession of the ball only 1 minute and 45 seconds while Butler ran 17 plays and maintained possession for 10 minutes and 15 seconds.  With the long Butler ball possession the Arab defensive squad had little time for rest.

Coming back from half-time Arab led off the third quarter with the first score.  With 5:59 left in the quarter, Arab gets on the board again when Kyler Kirkwood goes in from the 1 after a 7 play 41 yard drive that took 2:50 off the clock. The PAT was good and the new score is now Butler 27 and Arab 14.

With 8:11 left in the game Butler scores again when Cunningham goes in from the 5 capping off a 72 yard drive that consisted of 10 plays taking 3:49 off the clock.  That would be the final score as Butler wins by a score of 33 to 14 leaving the Knights with a 3-6 record thus far.

Arab faces Brewer High School next week in the final game of the season.  Arab will travel to Brewer with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
