Fort Payne Jumps Out To Early Lead Over The Knights And Holds On To Win 32 - 19

October 11, 2005
The Arabian  Knights traveled to Fort Payne for the seventh game of the season this past Friday and ran head long into the Wildcats offense.

Fort Payne took the opening kickoff and returned the kick to the Arab six yard line.  In the next play Slade Smith of Fort Payne took the ball and scampered 8 yards for the touchdown.  The PAT was good and with barely fifty-five seconds off the clock, led 7-0.

With 5:48 left in the first quarter, Fort Payne gets on the scoreboard again after a sixty-seven yard drive consisting of five plays and ran 2:02 off of the clock.  Antwon Appleton ran the final 12 yards for the TD and Josh Oberlander missed the PAT for a score of 13-0 Fort Payne.

In the second Quarter, Slade Smith hit Justin Bailey with a 32 yard strike for the third touchdown with 7:34 left in the first half.  The drive covered 73 yards in twenty-eight seconds.  Josh Oberlander was again called on for the PAT and this time was successful to push the score to 20-0.

With 3:05 left in the first half, Fort Payne strikes again, hitting Phillip Greathouse for a 36 yard touchdown that covered 80 yards in 6 plays.  Josh Oberhander missed his second PAT of the night and Fort Payne leads Arab by 26-0.

Arab finally gets on the board with 30 seconds left in the first half when Heath Pope connects on a 9 yard pass to Nick Karr.  The series of downs covered a total of 21 yards in eight plays and ran 2:23 off the clock.  Trey Knighton adds the extra point and the score is Fort Payne 25 - Arab 7.

Both teams were initially flat coming back after the half time break resulting in no scoring during the third quarter.

Taylor Guess who was sidelined last week with a leg injury, returned to the lineup Friday and after eight plays scored from the two yard line.  The Trey Knighton PAT was no good leaving the Fort Payne Wildcats with a lead of 26 - 13.

Fort Payne managed to get loose one more time in the fourth quarter when Slade Smith connects with Justin Bailey on a fourteen yard pass.  Once again Josh Oberlander misses the PAT.  The drive covered 48 yards in 5 plays with 1:37 coming off the clock.  With 4:02 left in the quarter Fort Payne leads Arab 32-13.

In one final attempt with 25 seconds left in the game. Wesley Hahn connects with Wes Patterson for a 10 yard touchdown pass.  Once again Trey Knighton misses the PAT.  This drive covered 94 yards in 10 plays and ran 1:52 off the clock.  Final score Arab 19 Fort Payne 32.
