Turnovers and penalties
plagued both Arab and Boaz during their season opener
Thursday night but Boaz eventually emerged with the win by a
score of 20-16. Arab had seven turnovers while Boaz
had four.
Arab scored first on a 45 yard
pass from Jonathan Embry to Jon Russell with 7:36 in the
first quarter the score was 7-0 Arab. Boaz answered
with a score of their own but the extra point attempt was no
good and Arab held onto the lead 7-6. Boaz tacked on 7
more points to take the lead 13-7. Arab tied the game
13-13 with 9:50 left in the fourth quarter.
Twenty-three seconds later Boaz broke the first play from
scrimmage for a 64 yard touchdown run. The extra point
was good and Boaz led 20-13. With 6:51 left in the
game, Trey Knighton kicked a field goal to make the score
20-16 Boaz. It was all defense after that as neither
team was able to sustain a drive. Boaz eventually
gained possession and ran the clock out for the win.
