In a game
that sometimes resembled football more than basketball, Arab
found themselves in unusual territory in the first half as
the Lady Jaguars scored first and led for the first five
minutes of the first quarter. Arab took the lead with
approximately three minutes left in the first quarter and
managed a 11 - 8 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Johnson outscored Arab in the second and third quarter as
Alli Smalley was forced to sit out much of the time after
being called for three fouls early in the game.
Johnson led 25-24 at the half and 35-33 at the end of three
quarters of play. Arab struck with a vengeance in the
fourth quarter, outscoring Johnson 15-4 to win 48-39.
The tough,
physical play by Johnson may have been their own undoing as
Arab racked up 17 points from free throws due to the Johnson
fouls. Arab shot 70.8% or 17 of 24 attempts while
Johnson scored on 12 of 20 free throws for a 60% average.
From the two
point field goal range, Arab made 14 of 44
shots for a 31.8% while Johnson made only 12
of 49 field goal shots for a 24.5% total.
From outside the three point circle Arab hit
3 of 7 for a 42.9% shot percentage while
Johnson managed to make only 3 of 14
attempts with a 21.4% shot percentage.
Courtney Gibson
led the Arab scoring with 17 points and 2
assists and 2 steals. Gibson was 6 of
8 from the free throw line. Kate
Hadkova, who was deadly from the free throw
line, scored 13 points pulled in 9 rebounds
and had 1 assist and 1 steal. Hadkova
hit 7 of 8 free throw attempts. Alli
Smalley added 10 points, 6 rebounds and 1
assist and 3 steals. Kathryn Whitlock
who led the defense with 10 rebounds also
tossed in 6 points. In addition,
Whitlock contributed 3 assists and 1 steal.
Anna Huckaby contributed 2 points to round
out the Arab scoring. In addition,
Huckaby had 3 rebounds and three assists.
Lindsey Guess
sustained a knee injury very early and was
sidelined for the rest of the game.
She was to have an MRI after the game to
determine the extent of injury.
Leading the
Johnson scoring was McRae with 16, Davis
with 12, Allen with 5, White with 3, Owens
with 2 and Shore with 1 point.
The Arab -
