(Continued From Home Page)

The center officially opened for patients on Monday, November 19.  An open house was held on November 18.  The open house was the first opportunity for the community to see inside the newest addition to the services provided by Marshall Health System.

In discussing the new center, Robbie Clapp, the head nurse  at the center, said, “We are excited about moving into this beautiful new facility, but most of all, about the technology we will now have to use in caring for our patients.” Among the new technology is a state-of the-art, wireless fetal surveillance system which will monitor fetal and maternal heart rates, maternal uterine activity while at the same time maintain a continuous patient record. “With this new system, mothers-to-be can move about with more freedom and comfort and even bathe while being monitored,” said Clapp. Other new technological advances at the Women’s Center are fully computerized patient records and a state-of-the-art newborn security system.

“While our initial focus has been on moving our current OB beds to the new facility, we are also planning to move our women’s imaging services from the ground floor of the main hospital building –including mammography, mammotome breast biopsy system and ultrasound technology – into the ground floor of the Center,” said John Anderson, Administrator, Marshall Medical Center South. “Upgrading our obstetrics capabilities has been an important goal of this project, but we are also committed to bringing a complete package of women’s services to this new facility.”

Gary Gore, Chief Executive Officer of the Marshall Health System, stated, “The Women’s Center represents a tremendous upgrade to the package of health care services we have to offer to the women in our area. We hope the convenience of the services being offered in one central location and the assurance of knowing that state-of-the-art technology is available close to home will demonstrate our commitment to providing world-class health care.”
