Roger Isom age 58, of Arab passed away Tues. Aug. 26, 2014, at Marshall Medical Center North.  Funeral Service was Thurs. Aug. 28, 2014, at 2 PM at Community Church with burial in Rocky Mount Cemetery.  Visitation was Wednesday from 5 PM until 8 PM at Gober Funeral Chapel and Thursday from 10 AM until 2 PM at Community Church. 

        
Carol Parker age 71, of Union Grove passed away Sat. Aug. 23, 2014, at Huntsville Hospital.  Funeral Service was Wed. Aug. 27, 2014, at 11 AM at Gober Funeral Chapel with burial in Mt. Olive Cemetery.  Visitation was Tues. from 6 PM until 8 PM at Gober Funeral Chapel. 

Ira Mae Hornbuckle Tidmore McDonnell age 92, of Arab passed away Tues. Aug. 19, 2014, at Shepherd's Cove.  Funeral Service was Friday Aug. 22, 2014, at 2 PM at Gober Funeral Chapel with burial in Rescue Cemetery.  Visitation was Friday from 1 PM until 2 PM at Gober Funeral Chapel. 

Frank Whitehead age 76, of Somerville, passed away Tues. Aug. 19, 2014, at his residence.  Funeral Service was Friday Aug. 22, 2014, at 7 PM at Brindlee Mountain Chapel with Visitation from 5 PM until 7 PM .  Burial was Sat. Aug. 23, 2014, at 10 AM at Rescue Cemetery.  


Patsy Fay Smith age 71, of Joppa passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at her residence. Graveside Service was Sat. Aug. 23, 2014, at 2 PM at Hebron Church of Christ Cemetery.  


Lila Mae Owens  age 94, of Arab passed away Wednesday August 20, 2014, at Golden Living Center Arab.  Funeral Service was Thurs. Aug. 21, 2014, at 4 PM at Gober Funeral Chapel with burial in New Friendship Cemetery.  Visitation was Thurs. from 2 PM until 4 PM at Gober Funeral Chapel. 

Lawrence G. Dahl   age 88, of Arab passed away Thurs. Aug. 14, 2014, at his residence.  Funeral Service will be Tues. Aug. 19, 2014, at 2 PM at Gober Funeral Chapel with burial in Guntersville City Cemetery.  Visitation will be Tues. from Noon until Service time at 2 PM.  

Melba Benton age 71 of Lacey's Spring passed away Wednesday August 13, 2014, at Shepherd's Cove. Memorial Service was Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Lacey's Spring.

Tommy Jack Roberson age 71, of Arab passed away Thurs. August 14, 2014, at his Daughter's home in Guntersville.  A Memorial Service was held Sat. Aug. 16, 2014, at 4 PM at Gober Funeral Chapel.  In lieu of flowers please make donations to Arab Girl's Softball for field repairs or Alacare Hospice. 

Linda Whisenant , age 66 of Union Grove (Allen's Crossroads), passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at her residence. Funeral Service was Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Gober Funeral Chapel with burial in Mt. Olive Cemetery. Visitation was Friday, August 8, 2014 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Gober Funeral Chapel.

William Clayton "Clay" Osborne, 22 of Arab died Thursday, August 28, 2014 at his residence.

Mr. Osborne, a lifetime resident of Arab was born July 29, 1992 in Madison County, the son of Mitchell and Christy Osborne. He was a construction worker and attended Liberty Church in Arab.

He is survived by his parents: Mitch and Christy Osborne; a brother: Bradley Osborne; grandparents: Ralph and Norma Osborne, Wallace and Carolyn Gay and Judy Dion; great grandmother: Christine Gay.

Funeral service will be 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Liberty Church in Arab, Brother Keith Hodges, Brother Rick Laster and Brother Dustin Teat, officiating. Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 4, 2014 in Arab Memorial Cemetery, Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Liberty Church in Arab.

Noretta Townley Byrd, 73 of Arab died Friday, August 29, 2014 at her residence.

Mrs. Byrd was born January 10, 1941 in Walker County, the daughter of Hollis H. and Pauline Townley. She was a high school and college graduate. She retired from Redstone Arsenal, Civil Service Contract Procurement.

She has called Arab her home for the past 5 years and attended Liberty Church in Arab. She was also a previous resident of Guntersville.

She is survived by a son: James Allen Byrd, a daughter: Paula Anne Bullock and two grandchildren: Clinton Hollis Williams and Jessica Laine Bullock; preceded in death by her husband: Woodroe H. Byrd, July 21, 2011.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, Brother Donald Davis and Brother John Carriker, officiating. Burial will be in Arab Memorial Cemetery, Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Byrd, Rick Byrd, Ron Byrd, Pete Glover, Dewayne Ray and Rodney Reese.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Saint Jude Children's Hospital or to the American Cancer Society.

Nellie Catherine Kinney, 80 of Lacey's Spring, the Morgan City area died Saturday, August 30, 2014 at her residence.

Mrs. Kinney was born July 22, 1934 in Prattville, Alabama, the daughter of Euell G. and Annie T. Moncrief.  She was married 56 years to James V. "Jim" Kinney and has called the Morgan City Community her home since 1960. She was a member of New Canaan Baptist Church. She enjoyed taking care of her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband: Jim Kinney; a son and daughter-in-law: T. K. and Jennifer Kinney; a daughter and son-in-law: Deb and Jeff McLemore; four grandchildren: Anna Leigh McLemore, Skigh Kinney, Gaston Kinney and Connor Kinney.

Funeral service was 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 31, 2014 at Brindlee Mountain Chapel, Morgan City, Brother Shane Wheeler, officiating. Burial was in Hill Family Cemetery, Brindlee Mountain Chapel, Morgan City and Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing.

Pallbearers were Gary Borden, Matthew Crawford, Patrick Crawford, Steve Crawford, Doug Oldacre and Jeff Pritchett.

Visitation was from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, August 31, 2014 at Brindlee Mountain Chapel, Morgan City.

Past Service Announcement...


Leola Whisenant Haga, 90 of Arab, the Brashiers Chapel Community died Thursday, August 28, 2014 in Marshall Medical Center North.

Mrs. Haga was born January 6, 1924 in Marshall County, the daughter of William "Simp" Whisenant and Nettie Ballew Whisenant. She had been a resident of the Arab area since 1949 and had retired from the old Blue Bell plant here in Arab.

Leola was married to the late James V. Haga, he preceded her in death September 10, 2001. She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church and enjoyed being with family and her grandchildren.

She is survived by three sons: James Oliver Haga, Verlon Olen Haga and Leonard Miller Haga; three daughters: Wanda Bryan, Willie Willis and Martha Carrington; 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, a great, great grandchild and a special niece and her husband: Bobbie and Hurel White.

Funeral service was 4:00 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2014 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, Brother Greg Stone and Brother Scott Haga, officiating. Burial was in Brookwood Cemetery, Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing.

Pallbearers were Nick Carrington, Leonard Haga, Oliver Haga, Scott Haga, Verlon Haga, Zack Haga, James Willis and Jason Willis.

Visitation was from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2014 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel.

World War II Veteran...

J. D. Sorter, 94 of Union Grove died Tuesday, August 26, 2014 in Marshall Medical Center North.

Mr. Sorter was born July 25, 1920 in Marshall County, the son of Charner and Lucy Kelley Sorter. He served his Country in the United States Army as Private First Class; Company F 19th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron, during World War II.

He was married to the former Ellie Hamilton, she preceded him in death in 1996 and although a previous resident of Guntersville, he has called the Pea Ridge area of Union Grove his home since 1948.  He was a field representative with the ASCS Office of Guntersville and a Member and Deacon of Mountain View Baptist Church.

J. D. is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Bill and Barbara Kelley; four grandchildren and spouses: Doris Breedwell (Bobby), Lisa Davis (Willis), David Kelley (Melba) and Larry Kelley; seven great grandchildren and spouses: Haley Breedwell, Matthew Breedwell, Billy Breedwell, Jarrod Davis (Amanda), Stephanie Franks (Ethan), David Kelley, Jr. (Tiffany) and Jacob Kelley; two great, great grandchildren: Knox Davis and Kaitlynn Franks; a brother and sister-in-law: Billy Ray and Diane Sorter; a sister and brother-in-law: Bobbie Faye and Bill Davis; several nieces, nephews, other family members, his church family and many dear friends and neighbors.

Funeral service was 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2014 at Mountain View Baptist Church, Brother Radford Pritchett and Brother Mike Whitt, officiating. Burial with Military Honors was in the adjoining cemetery, Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing.

Pallbearers were Billy Breedwell, Bobby Breedwell, Matthew Breedwell, Jarrod Davis, David Kelley, Jr., David Kelley, Sr., Jacob Kelley, Larry Kelley and Willis Davis as Honorary Pallbearer.

Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel. He also Lied-In-State at the Church on the day of the service from 1 to 2.
