RSVP Offers April
Computer Classes

Marshall County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is offering 8 computer classes in April. Registrations are now being taken at the RSVP center, located behind Mike’s Merchandise in Guntersville. Class fees must be paid before class starts. For more details, call 571-7734.

Classes for April are:

  • Vista Control Panel: Thurs., April 3, 1-3:30. $5 The use of the Control Panel features for customizing and maintaining the Vista operating system. Students should have a working knowledge of Windows Vista or have taken the RSVP Intro to Vista class. Instructor: Tom Rippel
     

  • Genealogy: Fridays, 4 sessions. Starting Fri., April 4, 9:00-11:30. $20 Basic information to get started in genealogy. Learn to use and document data into Family Tree Maker. Learn to use Genealogy.com and Ancestry.com (paid sites by RSVP) to search and print census records. Free sites of LDS, GenForum and others also available. Instructor: Glen Nicholas
     

  • Photo Transfer: Tues., April 8, 9:00-11:30 $5. How to transfer image data from camera to computer. How to save, store and move images. How to erase images on camera or storage devices. Instructor; Calvin Moon
     

  • Wireless Nets: Tues. April 8, 1:00-3:30, $5 The components of wireless networking, plus associated items. Instructor: Billy Alexander
     

  • Scan Photos: Tues., April 15, 9:00-11:00. $5 Setup and use of PC scanner. Learn about scanners, digital image, .jpg, .bmp, etc., what can be scanned and what you can do with a scanned image. Must know how to block, copy, paste and open and save files. Instructor: Calvin Moon
     

  • Intro to Vista (A): Wednesdays, 4 sessions, starting Wed., April 16, 1:00-3:30. $20 Additional book cost will be refunded at end of class if returned in clean condition. Students must bring their own USB Flash Drive, 1 or 2 gb. recommended. The course covers keyboard and mouse, becoming familiar with the Desktop, parts of a window, adjusting Desktop properties, performing system maintenance, using a flash drive, cut and paste, using WordPad, saving and printing a document. Instructor: Wayne Gregg (Vista B is scheduled for May 14.)
     

  • OCR Scan: Tues., April 22, 9:00-11:30. $5 Optical Character Recognition. Instruction on Abby Sprint, a free document reading and conversation program. Students will learn how to scan, read and save documents to file. Must have basic computer skills. Instructor: Calvin Moon
     

  • Mail Merge Letters: Thurs., April 24, 1:00-3:30, $5 Creating multiple, personalized mail using Mail Merge on Word 2002, 2003 and 2007. Learn the requirement for creating personalized letters, addressing mailing labels or envelops to be able to do a mass mailing. If student has a planned application, bring sample of information to be merged to class. Instructor: Tom Rippel.
