Arab Wins 1st Round Playoffs
Varsity Boys and Girls Soccer Teams Advance

History
was made at the Arab Soccer Complex Tuesday
evening. For the first time, two Arab
High School soccer teams were playing in the
sub-state playoffs simultaneously. For the
first time both teams won and will advance
to the 2nd round.

AHS Varsity Lady Knights tennis team are
Section champions. The Section tournament
including 7 schools was held Monday April
21st at Boaz High School. Arab won the
Section Championship with 57 points over 2nd
place Cullman with 44 point. Arab swept all
six singles events and # 2 doubles. They
earned a slot in the State tournament in
Montgomery April 28-30. This will be the
Lady Knights 8th consecutive year to compete
at the State Tournament under the coaching
of Wanda Shipp. The Knights finished the
tournament in 4th place. Lady Knights
finished the season undefeated in Section
with record of 6-0 and 11-2 in regular
season match play. Knights finished with
record of 3-3 in Section matches and regular
season record of 6-7.
Individual titles for Arab girls are as
follows:
#1 Singles Section champion -Avery King
#2 Singles Section champion - Jennifer Black
#3 Singles Section champion- Abby Burks
#4 Singles Section champion - Melinda Scott
#5 Singles Section champion- Katie Taylor
#6 Singles Section champion- Ashley Vickers

PALO ALTO, CALIF.— March 22, 2008
The Auburn women’s basketball
season came to a close Saturday as the Tigers, the No. 11 seed
in the Greensboro Regional, fell to No. 6 seed George
Washington, 66-56, in the first round of the NCAA Division I
Tournament at Maples Pavilion.
Auburn, which led by as many as seven points early in the second
half, was led by junior DeWanna Bonner who scored 16 points.
Alli Smalley, Sherell Hobbs and Trevesha Jackson added 10 points
apiece.

Snead State
Holds Softball Tryouts

Snead State Head Softball Coach Kristy
Robinson is hosting tryouts for the 2008-09
softball season.
The tryouts will be held May 13 and May 20
at 4 p.m. at the Boaz High School softball
field.

Holds Awards Ceremony

The Arab
High School Baseball Awards Ceremony was
held today. Players from all teams
were recognized for their outstanding play
during the 2008 season.

Snead State
to Continue Softball
April 27, 2008
Snead State Community College has decided to
continue it's softball program after being
sued for a plan to drop the program in favor
of other sports.
“I am pleased to
announce that Snead State Community College
will continue its softball program.
Collegiate athletics provide an extremely
valuable means for numerous young people to
attend college and we are proud to be able
to provide this opportunity for many young
women,” stated Snead State President Dr.
Robert Exley.

AHS Soccer
Teams Lose In Second Round Playoffs
May 4, 2008
The Arab
High School soccer season came to an end
Saturday afternoon as both the boys
and girls varsity teams fell to their
opponents in the second round of the state
playoffs. This was the first time that
both teams had made it to the second round.
The AHS boys
lost to the Brewer High School boys team by
a score of 2-0.
The AHS girls
faced Athens High School but were defeated
2-0.

East-West All
Star Tournament Players Advance To Second
Round
May 5, 2008
All three Arab
High School representatives on the Marshall
County Team advanced to the second round of
the Lion's Club East-West All-Star
Tournament after a good game in the first
round against Jackson County on May 5 at
Arab City Park. Jacob McDonald, Sam Maze,
and Ben Meinjohans were among the 18 players
selected from the Marshall County and
Jackson County teams.
In the first round game between Marshall
County and Jackson County, McDonald had a
hit, an RBI, and scored a run and Maze and
Meinjohans both struck out three in two
innings of work.
The second round game will be played Monday,
May 12 at 3:00 at Butler HS..

Scholarship
April 28, 2008
Five students
recently sign scholarships to attend Snead
State Community College as members of the
Dance Team.
Joining the Dance Team for the 2008-09
season are Lauren Marion of Arab, Hannah
Carlisle of Boaz, Amanda Cochran of Boaz,
Brittany Bearden of Sardis, and Jazmen Greer
of Sardis.
