Mountain Valley Volleyball Club
Wins Choo Choo Classic Tourney

The Mountain Valley Volleyball Club 14 year old girls recently won the Choo Choo Classic Volleyball Tournament held in Chattanooga, Tennessee on February 20, 2010. Teams from Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, and Virginia competed in the tournament.

The Arabian Knights varsity baseball team split a double header Monday afternoon at home against Fairview. The Knights outscored Fairview 7-1 in the first game but fell 8-3 in the second. The Knights are now 4-3. Click for game photos...

The Arabian Knights are headed to Jacksonville State University for the first round of the 5A Northeast Regional Tournament. The Knights won the trip to the tourney by defeating Southside in the 5A - Area 14 sub-regional game Saturday night. The Knights outscored Southside 67-55. Complete story.....

The Arab Knights clinched the 5A - Area 14 Championship Monday night by defeating the Madison County Tigers in a hard fought contest. The Knights now move on to sub-regional play by hosting Southside at the Arab High School gym this Friday night at 7 pm.

The Knights were red hot from three point territory in the first quarter, tossing in at least 5 straight three point shots during the period. Madison County made adjustments after the first quarter break and began to slow the Knights three point shootout. The Knights were plagued by turnovers in the second half, allowing Madison County to pull within three points a couple of times. Jonathan Embry, Lake Graham, and Jake Mann were named to the All Tournament Team.

Jake Mann lead the Knight's scoring with 13, followed by Lake Graham with 11. Jonathan Embry and grant Lake contributed 10 points each. Blake Harbin added 8, John Richey 4, and Connor Bedsole and Jonathan Knighton added 3 each.

Basketball Seniors Recognized

February 8, 2010
The Arab High School basketball program honored it's seniors Friday night at the AHS gym just prior to the 5A Area 14 semifinals. Seniors form the Boys and girls varsity teams and varsity cheerleaders were recognized along with their parents. Click for additional photos....

The senior recognition program was originally scheduled for the prior week but was cancelled due to a winter storm warning. The program was held prior to the games because AHSAA rules do not allow for senior recognition during the tournament.


Lady Knights Lose To Fort Payne
In Area Tourney

The Arab Lady Knights came away with the runner-up trophy in the 5A Area 14 finals game Saturday as they fell to the Fort Payne Wildcats by a score of 95-35. The Knights will move on to sub-regional play against either Boaz or Etowah. Click for additional game photos.....

The Lady Knights ran head long into a very physical and red hot Fort Payne team who was playing on their home court and before a home crowd Saturday night. The Wildcats mounted an early lead that the lady Knights were never able to overcome. Caelin Light led the Lady Knights scoring with 12 points. Cassie Hayes and Spencer Johnson added 5 each. Taylor Alice Mays tossed in 4 while Carleigh Larkin, Kylie Moore, and Savannah Ashley added 3 points each. Caelin Light and Cassie Hayes were named to the All Tournament team.

Play For Area Championship Monday

The Arabian Knights defeated the Fort Payne Wildcats 64-53 in the 5A Area 14 Tournament semi-finals Friday night. The win allows the Knights to move on to the championship game against Madison County Monday night. Game photos.....

The Knights led all four quarters against Fort Payne. Lake Graham led the Knights scoring with 19 points. Blake Harbin and Jake Mann scored 12 points each followed by Jonathan Embry with 10. The scoring was rounded out with 8 points by Grant Lake, 2 points from Jonathan Knighton and 1 from John Richey.

The Knights, who are 24-5 for the season, will face the 13-12 Madison County Tigers at 7 pm in the Arab High School gym.


JV Girls Tennis Win Season Opener

The Arab JV girls tennis team won their first match of the season 9-0 against Oneonta.

Girls JV Coach Alana Burks said, "Our JV team this year consists of several beginners to tennis. We do have some experience back from last year, but for our all of our girls to come out and play hard, and execute their serves and strokes the way they did was awesome to see!! I am very excited about the future of our tennis program with the work ethic I am seeing in these young athletes." Full story & stats..


Alli Smalley Leads Auburn In 50-36 Victory Over Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, Miss. – February 21, 2010
Alli Smalley scored 17 points as Auburn (13-14, 4-10 SEC) held one of the Southeastern Conference’s top offenses to 36 points, in a 50-36 victory at Mississippi State (17-10, 8-6 SEC) Sunday in Starkville, Miss. The Lady Bulldogs were held to half of their season average of 72.8 points per game.

Auburn led throughout most of the first half and never trailed in the second half, avenging a 73-58 loss to Mississippi State in the SEC-opener. Full story...


Alli Smalley Scores Career-High 27 Points Against Alabama

AUBURN - Auburn junior Alli Smalley scored a career-high 27 points to lead the Tigers (11-6, 2-2 SEC) to a 74-62 win over Alabama (8-9, 0-4 SEC) Thursday night at Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum. Senior KeKe Carrier added 20 points and a team-high nine rebounds while redshirt junior Jordan Greenleaf surpassed the 500-rebound plateau, finishing the contest with eight and 502 on her career. .”Complete story....

Lady Knights Open Tennis Season With Win & Loss

The Arab varsity Lady Knights are off to a 1-1 start with a 9-0 victory against sectional rival Madison County, and a tough loss (5-4) to the Hartselle Lady Tigers.

"This year is a definite rebuilding year in our mid to lower seeds after the loss of three seniors. On varsity we have two seniors, a junior, three 9th graders, and a seventh and eighth grader. Lady Knights Softball First Homegame Postponed Until March 1

February 21, 2010
The Lady Knights first home game was supposed to be Tuesday afternoon but was postponed due to the weather until Monday March 1.

Pregame activities will remain the same and will begin at 4:15. Activities will include introduction of the team, playing of the National Anthem and Mayor Gary Beam will throw out the first pitch.


Applications Available For 2010 Auburn Women's Basketball Camps

AUBURN - The Auburn women's basketball team is accepting applications to all four of its summer camps: Team Camp, Parent/Child Camp, Individual Camp and High Intensity Elite Camp.

The camps are staffed by Auburn head coach Nell Fortner, along with assistant coaches Kerry Cremeans, Mark Simons and Ayesha Whitfield, as well as Director of Basketball Operations Melissa Maines. Full story...

The Arab Lady Knights tennis team defeated DAR 9-0 Monday afternoon.

The Varsity and JV girls' home match versus Hazel Green that was scheduled for Tuesday has been rescheduled for Saturday morning, March 6, at 9 AM.

WSCC Offers Beginning Golf Classes at Cullman Golf Course

March 1, 2010
Wallace State Community Education is pleased to announce a lineup of Saturday golf lessons at Cullman Municipal Golf Course this spring.

Classes are held on three consecutive Saturdays, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., covering pre-shot fundamentals, irons and woods, and putting and chipping. The next set of sessions will be held March 13, 20, and 27.

Registration is $50 per student for three classes, which includes one day green fees and use of cart. Golf clubs are also available for use during the class.

PGA Professional and Cullman Golf Course Director Ches Harris will be the instructor.

These lessons are part of the PGA’s Play Golf America program and made possible by the Wallace State Future Foundation Brett Wetterich Gift.
