Verse Of The Day
Don McClendon
Ecclesiastes 11:5 (HCSB)
5 Just as you don’t know the path of the wind, or how bones develop in the womb of a pregnant woman, so you don’t know the work of God who makes everything.
Truly, God works in mysterious ways. One of daddy’s favorite stories has been rolling around in my head for days, but I simply couldn’t think of a verse which his story brought to everyday life. Then, when I open BibleGateway.com, today’s verse is the featured verse of the day.
Almost every time I was faced with a tough decision growing up and went to daddy for guidance, he would start out by saying, “Did I ever tell you the story about the Farmer and the Flood?” and, before I could answer, he’d tell this story…
There was this farmer out near the Mississippi River somewhere and a flood was coming. He was a religious man and prayed for God to save him.
The water rose up to his porch and was nearing his doorstep when a man on a big tractor drove up and said, “Climb onboard with me, friend, and I’ll take you to higher ground!” But the old farmer replied, “Not necessary neighbor, I’ve prayed for God to save me!”
The water continued to rise and flooded the downstairs of his house, so the farmer went upstairs and was looking out the front window when a man in a rowboat came by and said, “Climb aboard, brother, and I’ll take you to higher ground!” But the old farmer again replied, “Not necessary friend, I’ve prayed for God to save me!”
Finally, the water got so high that the old farmer climbed up on his roof and still the water was above his ankles. Suddenly, a man in a helicopter dropped out of the sky and shouted, “Climb onboard, sir; I’ll take you to higher ground!” But the old farmer shouted back, “Not necessary young man, I’ve prayed for God to save me!”
As the old farmer entered heaven and spoke with God he asked, “God, I prayed for you to save me, why didn’t you?”
God replied, “I sent you a tractor, a rowboat and a helicopter, why didn’t you trust ME!”
Just as I don’t know the flood you’re facing today, “so you don’t know the work of God who makes everything”. You’ve prayed and you prayed for His help and He wants nothing more than to help you. He may have sent you the help you need several times, but you didn’t recognize His hand in it. Perhaps He has already delivered you from your flood, but His method of salvation was so everyday simple that you failed to see that is was His hand that saved you. So here are two questions for all of us today: “Why don’t you trust Him?” and, if He has delivered you from your flood, “Why haven’t you given Him the glory?”
If we truly want to get to higher ground, the first step is to climb onboard and trust in our Lord who makes everything! Think about it and…
Have a Blessed and Trusting Day!!
